Sarcoma Overview

Sarcoma is a type of cancer that originates in connective tissues, which include:

  • Bones

  • Tendons

  • Cartilage

  • Fat

These tumors can occur in various parts of the body and are categorized into two main types:

Types of Sarcoma

  • Bone Sarcomas: These include osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma, which primarily affect the bones.

  • Soft Tissue Sarcomas: These can arise in muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, and other soft tissues.

Symptoms

Common symptoms of sarcoma may include:

  • A noticeable lump or swelling

  • Pain in the affected area

  • Limited movement if near joints

Diagnosis and Treatment

Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests and a biopsy. Treatment options may include:

  • Surgery

  • Radiation therapy

  • Chemotherapy
